Persists: Lactobacillus fermentum ME-3

Common US/Canadian brand is Reg’Activ. It appears to populate well, but no after after supplementation followup.

At baseline using specific primers, L. fermentum ME-3 was found in samples originating from 10 individuals. In control and probiotic study groups the prevalence of probiotic lactobacilli was similar at the beginning (9% versus 8%). In probiotic group the prevalence increased (at 4 weeks 62%; p < 0.001 and at 8 weeks 56%; p < 0.001). This was accompanied by the increase of the counts of L. fermentumME-3 between baseline and both other studied time points (p ≤ 0.001; p ≤ 0.001) (Table 2).
